The ICE method has been a boon to first responders. The concept is that you put the letters I C E in front of your next-of-kin’s name on your cellphone so first responders know who to call In Case of Emergency. See how that works?
A company out of England has taken the concept one step further and merged USB technology with MedicAlert style dogtags, bracelets and a credit-card sized device. You can see how they work in the pictures.

As great an idea as it is, UTag added specialized software that “includes emergency phone contacts, photo ID, doctor’s details and medical information (all fields are optional). The “tick box” design means that it can be translated into seven European languages simply by pressing on the appropriate language flag (excepting any free text entered).”
Very cool right? Very handy right? It gets even better. They have included a Personal Folder that is encrypted and requires a password to access. The folder is intended as a place to put digital copies of your passport, driver’s license, insurance, medical files, whatever! Since you pick the password, you’re the only one that can access it.
I seriously believe that this should be in everyone’s wallet or on them, especially if they do any sort of work or outdoor activity alone. Head on over to Utag ICE to get yours today.

Concerned about data loss or identity theft? Don’t always have access to a computer with the encryption/decryption software you need? The Kingston Data Traveler Vault Personal
is definitely the answer. Yep, the price is way higher than your average USB drive, yet the value is too.
What makes the DataTraveler so good is that it has a processor built into the drive that handles all the encryption and decryption on the fly. Fast. How fast? Up to 24 Mb/sec, that’s how fast! Encrypted? How encrypted? 256 bit AES encrypted. This is plug-and-play data security. What if you loose it and someone tries to hack the password. Well, they get TEN tries and then the drive wipes itself. Did I mention it’s waterproof as well?
How does that measure up against your regular USB drive with the encryption software that resides on your computer, and you have to encrypt, transfer it to the USB, take the file off the USB drive, decrypt it, lather rinse, repeat. Are you really doing that with EVERYTHING on your USB drive? I didn’t think so?
The DataTraveller comes in 2 GB, 4 GB,
16 GB, and 32 GB sizes. Get yourself one now and know that all of your important data is secure at last. Apparently they also work on Mac’s now.

A co-worker of mine brought one of these into work yesterday. After asking him why he brought his toaster to work, he explained what it was.
“It’s a new NAS device. I put two 1TB drives in it and I can set it up as network storage, use it as an FTP server, heck I could even serve torrents from it. It comes with built-in backup and FTP server software.”
I think he even said something about hooking it up to his DVR through his wireless network. 1Tb of .avi movies is about 130 movies or so. That’s a rough calculation.
In any event, I’m getting one for our work servers and my home computer. Under $200, it’s a steal
. He even got his drives for just under $100 a piece.
$400 for a 2 terabyte network attached storage device and I almost bought one for work a few months ago that cost $2000.
You can get the D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure here.

This cute drive featured at ManWorkDesign is a good case of form suggesting function. In the shape of a cartoonish submarine, this USB flash drive is meant to be waterproof.
It’s only a design concept right now, but for a person who has a playful nature, this could be a very useful and cool thumb drive. Thanks to iTechNews for bringing it to my attention.

Smaller in size, larger in data capacity and durable. That’s what you want in a USB Flash Drive right? I’m very surprised I hadn’t heard of the Super Talent 16GB Pico C drives until today. Look how tiny this thing is! And it holds 16GB! It weighs less than 6 grams and is shock and water resistant. Pick one up today, and have one of the best looking, most durable USB drives you can get.
According to TestFreaks.com, it works pretty well too!
